5G to load containers in ports, first tests to change global transportation

Industry transformation

Apart from offering faster Internet for mobile phones, 5G networks also aim to revolutionize the global transport of goods, and Europe has joined this experiment with the opening in Hungary of the first terminal on the continent that uses this technology for loading and unloading. containers.

Just 15 kilometers from the border with Ukraine and surrounded by the fields of the great Hungarian plain, the logistics center East-West Gate (East-West Gate) stands on the outskirts of the small town of Fényeslitke, in the northeast of the country.

5G technology applied to ports is a reality that is transforming the industry. This is what he stated Tamas Boday, director of integrated solutions at Huawei, who highlighted the advantages of this innovation in the sector.

Boday explained that: "The model includes the terminal that moves autonomously, has track lines and more than twenty cameras in each zone to help anticipate the speed of the train and all the elements involved. On the other hand, digitization has allowed, for example, many more women to work in very good conditions."

In this sense, the expert pointed out that traditional container terminals would have many more people on the ground in the risk zone, manipulating certain things very manually. However, with 5G technology, everything is digitalized, which makes the environment for chain operators much safer than currently in other locations that do not implement 5G technology.

Wedding He added: "This container terminal is authorized to hold even dangerous goods. This changes the industry itself, as it is strategically located near the border of Ukraine, Slovakia and Hungary. Eastern European rail standards are larger than the European standard, which allows for east-west logistics."

Finally, the director of integrated solutions at Huawei He highlighted that this route is shorter and lower cost, which means a great advance for the industry. Ultimately, 5G technology is revolutionizing the way ports and container terminals are managed, resulting in greater efficiency and security for everyone involved.
