73 Madrid companies compete for the SME of the Year Award from Banco Santander and the Chamber of Spain

Madrid occupies third position in registration volume, behind the Balearic Islands (81) and Barcelona (104).

1.577 companies opt for SME of the Year Award 2024, the reference award for the business world in Spain, which is awarded annually Banco Santander and Chamber of Commerce of Spain, and aims to value the work of small and medium-sized businesses as generators of wealth and job creators.

 

This year, in Madrid 73 companies have registered and it occupies third position in terms of volume of applications, behind Balearics with 81 and Barcelona, which occupies the first position with 104 registered companies; although the registrations of the provinces of Albacete and Zamora who will open their call in September.

 

The SME Award, which reaches its eighth edition this year, recognizes essential aspects of the contribution to society and the economy of SMEs, which make up 99,8% of Spain's business fabric: job creation, with special attention to employment undefined; boosting talent through training; international activity, focusing on the evolution of exports and opening to new markets; innovation and digitalization initiatives and socially responsible projects.

 

The SME of the Year Award is a distinction that is held in 50 provinces and has the participation of 54 territorial Chambers of Commerce, 13 Territorial Directorates of Banco Santander and the main newspapers of the Spanish press.

 

In the coming days, the meetings of the provincial juries will begin, which will decide, among all the candidates, five winners: Provincial SME of the Year Award, Accésit for Internationalization, Accésit for Training and Employment, Accésit for Innovation and Digitalization and Accésit for Sustainable Company.

 

The provincial winners will compete for the 2024 National SME of the Year Award, which will be decided in the first quarter of next year. The winners of the four second prizes will also compete for the National Award, in their respective categories.

 

10.753 SMEs participating since the creation of the Award

 

With this eighth edition, the SME of the Year Award is consolidated as the reference award for small and medium-sized Spanish companies. Last year, the seventh edition of the Award, a total of 1.740 companies from the 50 provinces registered and 52 territorial Chambers of Commerce, 13 Territorial Directorates of Banco Santander and the main newspapers of the Spanish press participated. Since 2017, the year it was launched, there are already 10.753 SMEs that have participated in this contest.
