ACCIONA Energía's MacIntyre wind farm begins generating renewable electricity in Australia

El MacIntyre Wind Farm, developed by ACCIONA Energy in Queensland, Australia, has started producing renewable electricity with the connection to the grid of its first 27 wind turbines, which already have an installed capacity of 154 MW. This wind farm, which will reach a total capacity of 923 MW over the next twelve months, will become the largest in the southern hemisphere once completed.

The construction of this wind farm, which once completed will be the largest in the southern hemisphere, has generated hundreds of jobs and significantly stimulated the local economy.

The gradual implementation of this project has generated a significant economic and employment impact in the region. According to ACCIONA Energy, during the construction phase, an average of 400 to 500 people have worked there, with more than 1.000 employees at peak times. In addition to the employment benefits, the park contributes to the decarbonisation of key sectors such as infrastructure, transport and retail, through long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with companies such as Stanwell Corporation and CleanCo.

One of the highlights is the participation of Ark Energy, Australian subsidiary of Korea Zinc, which owns 30% of the project. Part of the energy generated will be used to decarbonize the Sun Metals Corporation refinery, also owned by Korea Zinc, with the aim of making it the world's leading producer of green zinc.
