Acciona Windpower, a subsidiary of the Acciona group dedicated to design and manufacture of wind turbines, has opened a sales office in Germany –specifically in Mainz (Rhineland-Palatinate)- as a first step to introduce its products in one of the first European wind markets.

Acciona Windpower is a global supplier of wind turbines with extensive international experience: has formalized sales in 18 countries on five continents, with a total capacity of 6.660 megawatts (MW) accumulated by the first half of 2015.

 

The German office joins the company's twelve offices worldwide and will be its fifth in Europe, where it already has offices in Spain, Italy, Poland, and Turkey. On other continents, it has offices in the US, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, China, India, and South Africa.

 

The positive performance of Acciona Windpower, which recorded an EBITDA of €45 million in the first half of 2015, has largely been driven by the commercial success of its AW3000 platform, with a nominal capacity of 3 MW, which has accumulated sales of over 2,5 GW since its market launch.

 

The AW3000 is a robust and reliable turbine that optimizes generation to reduce energy costs throughout its entire lifecycle. It is achieving significant success in emerging markets, such as Brazil, where it has sold over 1.100 MW, Mexico, South Africa, Chile, Turkey, and Poland, and in more mature markets, such as the US, Canada, and Spain, where the company has its headquarters.

 

Designed as an evolution of the AW1500 platform, the AW3000 offers configurations adapted to all types of wind. It is available with four rotor diameters (100 m, 116 m, 125 m, and 132 m) and six tower heights, both steel (84 m, 87,5 m, and 92 m) and concrete (100 m, 120 m, and 137,5 m).

 

Its competitive advantages include support on double bearings on the slow-speed shaft, which provides great robustness, medium-voltage generation (12 kV) that allows savings of up to 50% in the energy collection infrastructure, and an average availability of over 98% with a very low rate of incidents in the main components.

 

Acciona Windpower has nacelle manufacturing plants in Spain, the US, and Brazil, as well as blade manufacturing plants in Spain and concrete tower manufacturing plants in various countries close to projects currently underway.
