Euro Info Centres (EICs) are organizations promoted by the European Commission whose mission is to inform small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their regional environment about international matters. They constantly manage and coordinate initiatives promoted by the European body, such as the recently published call for proposals on "Business Opportunities of European Enlargement."
The European Commission's Directorate-General for Enterprise recently launched the call for proposals "Business Opportunities of European Enlargement," which aims to analyze and explore the economic advantages that the accession of EU candidate countries will bring to Spanish SMEs. The EIC (Euro Info Centre) of the Institute for Development of the Region of Murcia has been appointed national coordinator of this campaign, which highlights the impact that the increase in the number of consumers in the internal market from 370 to 454 million will have on SMEs.
This project incorporates the actions planned for 2003 by 21 Spanish EICs belonging to 15 Autonomous Communities (more than 88% of the Spanish network) worth 452.058,16 euros, with European co-financing of around 80%.
In Spain, plans are underway to create a website specializing in the business aspects of the enlargement (www.eic-europa25.org), which will most likely be operational at the beginning of the year, in addition to offering an advisory service on the opportunities that this new market will provide.
Specifically, the main objectives of the membership campaign will be:
Highlighting business opportunities for SMEs in new markets in enlargement countries.
– To better understand and overcome different business cultures.
– To provide practical actions focused on the learning of SMEs.
– Develop tools for the EIC network that will support the development of cooperative business between the EU/EEA (European Economic Partnership) and SMEs in candidate countries.
