The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Albares, met with ambassadors of the European Union in Spain to discuss the main challenges of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council.
Albares noted that Russian aggression against Ukraine represents an enormous challenge for European security, but also warned of other threats such as disinformation and instability in Near East.
"The Russian aggression against Ukraine has posed a huge challenge to European security, but it also highlighted other threats, such as disinformation and instability in the Middle East, to which we also have to pay attention," Albares said.
The Spanish minister advocated a balanced approach to the international agenda, which would allow for addressing both urgent crises and strategic debates of relevance to the EU.
Albares also highlighted the importance of strengthening relations with the Southern Neighborhood and with Latin America and the Caribbean, especially in the context of the upcoming EU-CELAC Summit.
Regarding Spain's priorities, Albares reiterated the Government's commitment to the official status of the Spanish co-official languages in the European Union.
"The meeting also served as an opportunity for Albares to explain to the ambassadors the major events that Spain has in the short term, among which the Financing for Development Conference stands out, which begins at the end of June and will take place in Seville," the minister added.
