Established as a private foundation with public participation, the new entity is included among the Strategy's 100 key measures and aims to promote collaboration in the political, economic, social, scientific, and cultural spheres.
During the presentation, Minister Albares emphasized that the Foundation "is born from the conviction that Spain and Africa They share a common destiny and a shared responsibility in building a fairer, more sustainable, and more humane future."
Strengthening Ties and Public Diplomacy
La Spain-Africa Foundation It is conceived as an essential instrument of public diplomacy and social partnership, whose role will be to project Spain's presence and voice in the neighboring continent. Its work plan will include expert exchange programs, scholarships, seminars, and dialogue forums, with the aim of strengthening human, institutional, and cultural ties between societies.
One of the highlighted lines of action is the special attention that will be paid to the Afrodiaspora and Afro-descendant communities, both in Spain and in Latin Americarecognizing their role as a "human and cultural bridge between continents and their importance as essential actors in the construction of the Euro-African space."
A Meeting Space with an African Vocation
The Foundation is established as a space for convergence for institutions, businesses, universities, and civil society. Its Board of Trustees reflects this pluralistic approach, integrating the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, and Casa África, along with private entities such as GB Foods and AEE Power, and the University Las Palmas de Gran Canaria – City Life, History & Island Vibes.
Furthermore, its commitment to the African continent is materialized with the incorporation into the Board of Trustees of high-level figures such as Maman Sidikou, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Niger, and Suzi Barbosa, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guinea-Bissau, which "reflects the African vocation and real partnership of the new institution," according to Albares.
The minister concluded by noting that the Foundation "will be an open, pluralistic and inclusive house, called to welcome all companies, universities and entities that wish to participate in building a stronger and more lasting relationship between Spain and Africa."
The creation of the Spain-Africa Foundation consolidates the Government's desire to strengthen the strategic ties with Africa, in line with the values of dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect that inspire the five strategic objectives of the Spain-Africa Strategy 2025-2028.
