The meeting continues the dialogue initiated during Albares' visit to Abu Dhabi in February 2024, on which occasion he extended an invitation to His Highness the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed to visit Madrid. Today's meeting served to delve deeper into the opportunities that arise from the strategic partnership between Spain and the UAE, in addition to addressing relevant issues on the international agenda.
Both ministers highlighted the significant progress achieved since the signing of the Strategic Partnership in February 2022, an agreement promoted by the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and His Highness Bin Zayed. This progress, they noted, demonstrates the excellent harmony between the two countries.
Albares emphasized the importance of the UAE as the main destination for Spanish exports within the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as its position as the second-largest regional supplier and largest investor in the Spanish energy sector.
The Spanish Foreign Minister also welcomed the growing balance and dynamism in key sectors for both economies, such as infrastructure, transportation, and the development of renewable energy.
During the meeting, the ministers explored areas of mutual interest, including the UAE's increasing involvement in the international tourism, a sector in which Spain has extensive experience. They also discussed the direction of investments toward emerging sectors such as agrotechnology, green hydrogen, and aerospace.
This meeting reaffirms Spain's commitment to strengthening economic and collaborative ties with the United Arab Emirates, consolidating a strategic partnership that benefits both countries.
