The Minister of the Presidency of the Generalitat of Catalonia, albert dalmau, has visited the Distrito 4.0, an initiative promoted by the Consorci de la Barcelona Free Trade Zone (CZFB). In the heart of this district is the DFactory Barcelona, an internationally renowned Industry 4.0 ecosystem that currently hosts nearly 40 companies specialized in cutting-edge technologies such as Robotics, 3D printing, sensors, artificial intelligence, IoT, augmented and virtual reality, blockchain, and nanotechnology.
During his visit, Dalmau met with Pere Navarro, special delegate of the State in the CZFB, and Blanca Sorigué, director general of the CZFB. The minister was able to witness firsthand the strategic vision and the entity's firm commitment to leading the digital transformation of the industry. This activity, according to the CZFB, generates a high added value for the territory, promoting job creation and attracting and retaining talent. Distrito 4.0 is transforming the activity of the Barcelona Free Trade Zone, attracting leading national and international companies and fostering a collaborative environment for the development of innovative solutions.
Later, Albert Dalmau toured the facilities of the DFactory Barcelona, learning about the work of some of its companies. The center, which already has 40 companies of various nationalities, operates at a 90% of its capacity, which has driven the projection of a significant expansionThe space is expected to grow from 17.000 m² currently to 60.000 m² by the end of 2026, consolidating its position as the largest public initiative in collaboration with the private sector, fostering synergy between innovative technologies and the creative talent of Industry 4.0.
The Minister of the Presidency, Albert Dalmau, emphasized "the The firm commitment of the Free Trade Zone Consortium to make the DFactory Barcelona the central hub of the Industry 4.0 ecosystem. Thanks to the commitment to public-private collaboration in areas such as robotics, artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, and 3D printing.” Dalmau also stated that the Catalan Government will support initiatives like these, as they “align with this Government’s objective of regain Catalonia's economic leadership".
For its part, Pere Navarro, special delegate of the State in the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, highlighted that “DFactory is the largest public initiative that, in contact with the private sector, promotes collaboration between innovative technologies and creative talent related to Industry 4.0. Here we have multinationals, leading technology centers, national companies and some SMEs that are creating synergies and collaborations between them to solve challenges and offer innovative solutions.” Navarro added that they seek “this philosophy that DFactory Barcelona has to permeate the entire Distrito 4.0 and the entire industrial park, so that it can expand throughout the entire territory and become international benchmarks. In fact, this is already happening, and it's our vision for the future of the industry."
Finally, Blanca Sorigué, general director of the CZFB, stressed that the success of the project is not a coincidence: “all this is not happening here by chance, but it is happening because Barcelona is a unique region worldwide, internationally connected, attractive for attracting and retaining talent, with a powerful technological, innovative and entrepreneurial ecosystem.…all of this together makes it the ideal location to be the world capital of Industry 4.0 and attract international investment.” Sorigué concluded that “to all this we must add that the Barcelona Free Trade Zone is one of the main economic areas of the country, which has always led the most innovative industry, in a unique location in the world, so all the ingredients are in place to lead this type of initiatives and turn the Distrito 4.0 in the economic activity zone that leads Industry 4.0 internationally.”
During the visit, the counselor also inquired about the recent certification of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) awarded to the CZFB. This certification has made the CZFB the The first free zone in the world to receive the certificate of security and transparency in trade, highlighting its business model focused on innovation, Industry 4.0, and sustainability, as well as its commitment to transparency in management and security in international trade.
