Andalusia is the second Spanish community in sales of food and beverages to China, with exports that doubled in the first quarter of 2019 to 55 million.
A total of four Andalusian companies in the agri-food sector They promote their food offer in China through a direct trade mission organized by Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administration and Interiorthrough Extenda-Andalusian Foreign Promotion Agency, from yesterday the 10th until next Friday, June 14th in Shanghai and Beijing.
The objective of this mission is to connect the Andalusian food and beverage companies with importers and distributors of the sector in China, in order to promote the presence of Andalusian products in the market and thus advance the internationalization of the food industry of Andalucía.
To do this, the Andalusian firms that have traveled to China with the support of extend will develop an agenda of up to 14 individual meetings with commercial agents of Shanghai and Beijing (importers, distributors, retail companies, etc.) throughout the five days of the mission, for which there has been support from the Extenda office in China.
China It is the market with the highest consumption of food products in the world. With the development of its middle class, the country has become one of the markets with the largest global dimension for foreign agri-food industry, being one of the most important destinations for Spanish food and beverage exports in recent years.
Andalucía occupies a prominent position in the sale of food and beverages to China, with exports that in 2019 reached 55 million euros, a figure that places the community as Spain's third largest exporter to the Asian country, only behind Catalonia and Aragon, with 15,9% of total national sales and the highest growth of the ten most exporting communities in this period.
Andalusian companies in the mission
The community companies that participate in the trade mission to China They are Aceitunas Torrent (Córdoba), La Rentilla (Córdoba), Pago de Espejo (Jaén) and Comercial Agrícola Novasol (Seville).
The organization of this action by Extenda will be co-financed with funds from the European Union through Fr.O. FEDER of Andalusia 2014-2020, endowed with a community contribution of 80%.
China is the tenth world market for Andalusian agri-food exports and the second non-EU market, with 1,6% of total sales (only behind the United States, seventh in the ranking, with 5,3%).
China, expanding market
According to data from Extenda, Andalusia doubled its food and beverage exports to China in the first quarter of 2019, growing 98% year-on-year to 55 million euros. A growth that is the highest of the ten main exporting communities to the country and that places Andalusia as the third region in sales, with 15,9% of national exports.
Likewise, this increase reinforces the positive evolution of Andalusian exports to China in the last decade, when they have multiplied by five (growing 429%) until reaching 167 million in 2018.
For its part, China It is the tenth world market for Andalusian agri-food exports and the second non-EU market, with 1,6% of total sales (only behind United States, seventh in the ranking, with 5,3%).
Furthermore, the number of regular food and beverage exporting companies a China (four consecutive years of exporting) has doubled in the last decade, with an increase of 164%, up to 74 in 2018 (46 more than in 2009), which shows the consolidated position achieved by those that bet on the Chinese market. In total, the number of Andalusian companies that export food and beverages to China It has almost doubled in the last decade, with an increase of 86% to 180 in 2018 (83 more than in 2009).
Meat and olive oil, main sales
Andalucía export to China mainly frozen meat and offal, with 18,6 million, a third of sales and a triple increase compared to the same period of the previous year (204% more); followed by olive oil, with 17,4 million, another third of exports and a growth of 80%; followed by fruits, with 6,6 million, 12% of the total and an increase of 11,6%.
In fourth place are various food preparations, with 6,3 million, 11,6%, which multiplies its figure by six, with an increase of 575%; followed by fish and seafood, with 2,6 million, 4,8% and an advance of 23,4%.
By provinces, Malaga leads sales and two out of every five euros it sells Andalusia to China, 21,5 million, 39% of the total and double sales compared to the same period of the previous year, increasing 150%. They follow him Seville, with 16,4 million, 29,9% and a growth of 36%; and Granada, with 6,8 million, 12,3% and a triple increase (180% more).
In fourth place is Cordoba, with 4,9 million, 8,9%, which doubles its bill; followed by Cadiz, with 4,7 million, 8,6%, which quadruples its figure with an increase of 367%; Jaén, with 428.000 euros (0,8%); Huelva, with 167.000 euros (0,3%), which triples its figure (254%); and Almeria, with 36.000 euros.
