It's clear. The People's Republic of China has become a strategic investment destination and a market for exporting products. This is evidenced by the numerous meetings and trade missions organized last September, along with the upcoming EU-China Partnership 2002 event this November, an initiative of the European Commission in which the Spanish Ministry of Economy's Directorate General for SME Policy is participating, having been appointed as a national consultant.
Representatives from Valencia traveled to China to initiate business contacts in the marble sector. Representatives from Andalusia are promoting olive oil. The Madrid Chamber of Commerce is organizing a conference to provide information on market opportunities in China within the telecommunications sector, and as we mentioned, the Directorate General for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (DGPYME) is inviting Spanish business owners to participate in the meeting taking place next month.
EU-China Partnership 2002
This is an initiative of the European Commission to promote business cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises in the European Union and the People's Republic of China within the framework of the Asia-Invest program.
For two days, November 7 and 8, companies meet according to pre-arranged meetings to try to exchange impressions and bring positions closer together in order to initiate commercial exchanges.
The industrial sectors that will be represented are: electromechanics, industrial support engineering, environmental technology, food and beverage, information and communication technologies, machinery and equipment, and metal products.
Spanish companies wishing to participate in the EU-China Partnership 2002 should contact the Dgpyme of the Ministry of Economy, which has been chosen as the national consultant.
The event, which will bring together approximately 400 host companies, will take place at the China International Exhibition Centre in Beijing. Trade mission of the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Regional Government of Andalusia
Meanwhile, last September, Magdalena Álvarez, Minister of Economy and Finance for the Andalusian Regional Government, embarked on a trip to China, a country to which Andalusian businesses export products worth over 70 million euros, including Hong Kong. The Minister also took the opportunity to officially inaugurate the Business Promotion Unit (UPN) in Beijing, belonging to the public company Comercializadora de Productos Andaluces (CdeA), which reports to the Ministry and already has 13 other offices.
The mission, which also included members of the Andalusian Parliament and the Confederation of Andalusian Businessmen, began with a presentation on the Chinese market. At that time, MQM, a company led by its president Emilio Moreno and with over 25 years of experience in China, outlined its current position regarding the marketing of its products in the country. Subsequently, business owners from the olive oil sector promoted their products, highlighting the significant number of Andalusian companies that have established operations in China to expand their businesses (Macpuarsa, Hispacold, Sainco, and Sánchez Romate).
Last September, Andalusian businesspeople traveled to the People's Republic of China to promote olive oil.
Álvarez also met with the mayor of Xian, the capital of the Shaanxi region, to discuss possible areas of bilateral cooperation; as well as with the Director General for Europe of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Trade, who reported on the sectors and products with the greatest potential for export from Andalusia to China.
Among the many events scheduled during this trip, the meeting with the Municipality was particularly noteworthy. Andalusia signed a collaboration agreement with the Municipality a year ago for investment development and trade promotion. In addition, representatives from the regional government, business leaders, and members of parliament visited the Chongqing high-tech project development zone, where they met with its mayor, Bao Xuding.
Besides olive oil, other sectors that have prospects for expansion in the People's Republic of China are those related to intensive agriculture, tourism, fishing, furniture and the environment.
China is undoubtedly leading the way towards internationalization, a market that aspires to be the world's largest economy by 2020.
The Madrid Chamber of Commerce is also interested in China
The Madrid Chamber of Commerce informed Madrid business leaders about market opportunities in the Chinese telecommunications sector. This sector expects to reach 500 million fixed lines and 515 million mobile lines by 2015. It's a large market, but one with fierce competition, given the presence of the world's largest companies. Participants included Alfonso Carcasona, president of the Chamber of Commerce's New Technologies Commission; Edmundo Fernández, deputy director general of the National Association of Electronic and Telecommunications Industries (ANIEL); Yonggui Tang, Chinese ambassador to Spain; Xiao Zhe Fu, vice president of the CCPIT-Shanghai; Philippe Chauve, head of Telecommunications and Electronic Commerce, Directorate-General for Trade, European Commission; Raymond Yip, director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in Europe; and Orlando Abreu, advisor to the Economic Cooperation with Asia Unit, European Commission.
