Once again, the Basque company in the railway auxiliary industry is trying to win the contract to build 45 trains for the Mexico City metro, in a deal worth 306 million euros.
It had already been attempted unsuccessfully, although CAF challenged the tender in which the main international groups participated in 1997, alleging that there had been several irregularities in the awarding process, at that time to the consortium formed by Alstom and Bombardier.
With this new opportunity, CAF aims to expand its presence in the Mexican market, where it already has a subsidiary. Its current client portfolio amounts to €1.200 billion, with its main operations including the supply of train cars for the Washington Metro, the Pittsburgh and Sacramento commuter rail systems, the delivery of diesel trains for Irish Railways, and agreements reached in Spain with Renfe, the Madrid and Valencia metros, and the Bilbao tramway.
