CAF will supply 180 electric buses to the Swedish city of Malmö.

 

The public transport operator Nobina Sverige AB has awarded to Solaris, a subsidiary of the Spanish group CAF, the supply of 180 electric buses for the city of MalmöThe contract, valued at approximately €150 million, is one of the largest electric bus orders received by Solaris in the region and strengthens the strong relationship between the two companies.

 

Deliveries of the vehicles, which will begin in 2026 and continue through 2027, include buses of various lengths to suit the diverse needs of urban and suburban routes. The fleet consists of:

 

  • 78 Solaris Urbino 18 articulated buses with 600 kWh batteries.

  • 36 Solaris Urbino 24 bi-articulated buses with 700 kWh batteries.

  • 65 Solaris Urbino 15 LE low-floor buses with 500 kWh batteries.

  • A Solaris Urbino 12 bus with a battery capacity of 400 kWh.

 

This investment represents a fundamental step for Malmö in its goal of fully electrifying its public transport system, a goal the city has pioneered in Europe by introducing 24-meter bi-articulated buses into its network.

 

 

The CAF Group strengthens its strategic position in the Nordic countries

 

 

 

Solaris has been present in Sweden since 2003, having delivered nearly 800 buses in the country. Recently, the company also won contracts to supply 170 electric buses in Stockholm and the province of Skåne. This new agreement confirms the company's role in the transition of public transport to zero-emission solutions in the region.

 

Beyond the bus business, The Scandinavian market is strategic for the CAF Group, which has implemented numerous railway projects. These include the supply of units for the high-speed line connecting Oslo to its airport, the Oslo metro, Helsinki and the tram fleets for Stockholm, Oslo and Lund.

 

In Sweden, CAF is immersed in the execution of two important railway contracts for the operators Transitio AB and SJ AB, which include the supply of more than 50 regional trains with future expansion options. Furthermore, its subsidiary, EuroMaint, with over 1.000 employees, is a leader in rail services in Sweden, providing maintenance to major train fleets and supplying rail components.
