The President of the International Commission of CEOE Aragon, Daniel Alvarez, has called for caution in the face of announcements by US President Donald Trump on a possible new tariff policy. According to Alvarez, an increase in tariffs would harm all parties, including the american economy, which is already facing the challenge of inflation.
Alvarez recalled that similar announcements were made previously about Canada or Mexico have been greatly reduced in their actual application, so he urged to wait and analyze the specific measures that are taken.
The direct impact of tariffs on European products would be limited in Aragon, since exports to the US represent only 1,4% of the total exports of the autonomous community. However, the indirect impact through the Increase in prices of raw materials and components, as well as the effect on other European countries, could be more significant.
Given this situation, Álvarez has advocated for a "reasonable rebalancing" and a coordinated European response, even if tariffs are applied differently by country.
For his part, the managing director of Aragón Exterior, Javier Camo, has highlighted the importance of Aragonese exporting companies expanding their presence in other markets, such as Asia, Latin America and Africa, both to mitigate the impact of possible US tariffs and to address weak European growth.
