A group of companies from the region, accompanied by the Foreign Promotion Institute (IPEX) of Castilla la Mancha, have participated in a prospecting trip to Seoul from June 11 to 14, with the aim of learning about market trends, establishing contacts with potential clients, and exploring business opportunities.
South Korea, with a population of almost 51 million inhabitants and a per capita income higher than that of Spain (32.254USD), offers great potential for agri-food companies in Castilla la Mancha. The country has a significant middle class that is increasingly open to cosmopolitan tastes in its diet. Young people, in particular, are willing to try new products, which favors the entry of foreign products such as Spanish ones.
The trade mission began with a visit to the fair SEOUL FOOD 2024, a reference event in the Korean agri-food sector. There, participating companies were able to meet with local importers of European products and learn about the latest trends and market demands. In addition, they visited the Spanish pavilion, where 2 companies from Castilla-La Mancha were directly present, while others were represented by their importers.
To complete their market analysis, Castilla-La Mancha companies participated in a guided tour of points of sale, where they were able to closely observe the competition, prices and formats of the products that are most in demand. The mission concluded with a meeting at Commercial Office of Spain in Seoul, where the Counselor, Darío José Sáez, provided information on the peculiarities of the Korean market for food products and current consumer trends.
The government of Castilla-La Mancha, through IPEX, is committed to supporting companies in the agri-food sector, one of the most thriving in the region. This prospecting trip to South Korea is an example of this commitment, and is expected to result in an increase in exports of agri-food products from Castilla-La Mancha to this market.
