STRATEGIC COMMITMENT TO THE ENERGY TRANSITION IN OCEANIA
UGL , a company belonging to the CIMIC Group , has been selected again by Neoen and Tesla to develop phase 2 of the Goyder battery in South Australia , a key project that will strengthen large-scale energy storage capacity in the region.
The new phase of the project will incorporate a storage capacity of 227 MW and 907 MWh , thus matching the figures of the first phase—currently under construction by UGL itself for the same partners. With this expansion, the total capacity of the Goyder storage complex will rise to 454 MW and 1.814 MWh.
Under this contract, CIMIC's subsidiary will undertake the complete execution of the work at the plant. This includes the installation of the necessary civil, electrical, and high-voltage infrastructure to integrate Tesla's innovative Megablock technology , as well as the preliminary technical tests and the final commissioning of the facilities.
The project is part of the Goyder renewable energy zone , a strategic development driven by Neoen in north-central South Australia, designed to provide the state with grid stability and ensure a reliable electricity supply through long-duration storage solutions.
Juan Santamaría , CEO of the ACS Group and HOCHTIEF , as well as Executive Chairman of CIMIC Group , welcomed this new award: “This award reflects the strength of our collaboration with Neoen and Tesla, as well as our shared commitment to delivering critical, reliable, and large-scale energy infrastructure. With the inclusion of Phase 2, the total contracted UGL capacity for Neoen’s battery projects in Australia will exceed 7 GWh . Goyder Battery will play a fundamental role in supporting grid stability and South Australia’s transition to renewable energy . ”
Technical forecasts indicate that construction work for this second phase will officially begin in August 2026 , setting the start of operations for the complex in 2028.
