The Spanish Development Finance Company, COFIDES , has announced its participation in the Vesper Next Generation Infrastructure Fund I SCSp (the Fund) with a financial commitment of €50 million . This investment is made through the Co-investment Fund (FOCO) , a key instrument of the Spanish Government, endowed with €2.000 billion from the NextGenerationEU resources of the PRTR addendum.
Vesper's primary objective is to raise a total of €800 million for its Fund. The strategy focuses on supporting medium-sized companies in Spain that operate in sectors considered strategic for the future of the economy. These include the energy transition, sustainable mobility, digital infrastructure, and the circular economy.
Ángela Pérez , president and CEO of COFIDES, highlighted the significance of the commitment: “ The fund, led by Vesper Infrastructure, focuses on medium-sized companies operating in strategic areas such as the energy transition, sustainable mobility, digital infrastructure, and the circular economy. These investments are essential to driving sustainable growth and strengthening competitiveness in Spain .” Pérez also emphasized the timing, noting that COFIDES’ participation in the Fund comes “ at a particularly opportune moment, as it helps to reduce the structural financing gap for these types of projects and reinforces our commitment to decarbonization and sustainability .”
This strategic move seeks to finance and promote Spanish companies focused on creating decarbonized, connected, and sustainable infrastructure, reinforcing Spain's commitment to the ecological and digital transition.
From the perspective of the fund manager, Livio Fenati , founder and CEO of Vesper Infrastructure Partners, expressed his gratitude and validation: “ We are truly honored to have earned the trust of such a major institutional investor as COFIDES. Their commitment represents a significant milestone that further validates the Fund’s attractive value-added strategy in the mid-market segment and the team’s solid investment track record .”
For his part, Guillermo Royo-Villanova , co-founder and partner of Vesper Infrastructure Partners, highlighted the impact of the collaboration: “ We are pleased that the Fund has a new leading institutional investor like COFIDES, which brings scale and local knowledge, accelerating the Fund's deployment in value-added infrastructure investments in Spain .”
The FOCO Co-investment Fund was created with the fundamental purpose of boosting foreign investment in the Spanish economy . Its operations are designed to enhance access to financing for Spanish companies involved in the green and digital transitions , as well as technological innovation . Investments made through FOCO require the participation of a foreign co-investor and can be implemented either through direct investment in companies or through participation in investment funds, such as Vesper.
