COFIDES grants a 35 million euro loan to CAF to boost the production of renewable energy trains and buses

COFIDES has granted a €35 million loan to the Basque company Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) to support its international expansion . The financing, which comes from the Fund for Investments Abroad (FIEX), is earmarked for investments in the production of trains and buses powered by renewable energy in various countries.

This is the fourth agreement between COFIDES and CAF, having previously collaborated on projects in Poland and the United Kingdom . The operation is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8, which promotes sustainable economic growth and job creation.

Furthermore, the initiative falls under the COFIDES Impact program , part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union through the Next Generation EU funds . The loan includes a sustainability component linked to the reduction of scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, which will allow CAF to benefit from financing incentives if it meets certain environmental targets.

Miguel Ángel Ladero , corporate director of the Investment Department at COFIDES, emphasized: “COFIDES maintains a strong commitment to promoting the internationalization of Spanish companies that, like CAF, have sustainable projects and generate quality employment.”
