DHL Express, celebrating over 30 years of presence in the province, has inaugurated its new logistics platform in Vilablareix (Girona), a strategic infrastructure project representing an investment of €7,7 million and operational since last March. Miguel Borrás, Managing Director of DHL Express in Spain, highlighted the dynamism of the local business sector during the presentation: “Girona has demonstrated its remarkable dynamism. Its industrial, import, and export sectors are among the most dynamic in Catalonia. In terms of volume, Girona is our second largest export destination after Barcelona.” According to Borrás, this investment is a direct result of consistent growth and the work of the local team over more than 30 years in the province.
Business activity in the area is evenly split between B2B and B2C shipments, with the fashion, engineering, manufacturing, and professional services sectors being the main drivers. The new logistics platform sits on a 6.500 m² plot and features a 2.082 m² warehouse and 380 m² of office space. It is designed to process up to 3.000 shipments per hour, thanks to its 11 loading docks and space for 28 delivery vehicles. Currently, it operates 20 routes covering 220 municipalities in the province, with the capacity to expand to 28 routes in the future.
In line with the DHL Group's sustainability strategy, the center boasts the highest energy efficiency rating (A label), making it a carbon-neutral building. This is achieved through the incorporation of solar panels, aerothermal systems, smart lighting controls, and electric vehicle charging points.
For her part, the mayor of Vilablareix, Maite Tixis i Padrosa, expressed her gratitude for the company's confidence in the municipality: "The establishment of a leading company like DHL is great news.
