Europe drives the growth of Spanish fruit and vegetable exports

 

The continent accounted for an impressive 98% of the total foreign sales In this period, consolidating itself as the main driving force of Spanish fruit and vegetable sector.

 

Between January and March 2025, Spain exported a total of 3,4 million tons of fresh fruits and vegetables, with Europe Accounting for 3,3 million tons, a 1% increase over the same period last year. In terms of value, sales to Europe reached €5.590 billion, up 9%, out of a total of €5.702 billion exported globally.

Germany, France and the United Kingdom lead consumption

 

Germany, France and the United Kingdom remain the main destinations for Spanish exports within Europe.

Sales to Germany, amounted to 982.876 tons (1% more) and generated 1.693 billion euros (+11%).
    

France imported 584.331 tons (+4%), with a value of 836,5 million euros (+11%).

 

El United Kingdom, the most important non-EU market for Spain, acquired 408.662 tonnes (+2%) for a value of 786 million euros (+8%).

 

Other notable European markets include Netherlands, with 291.743 tonnes (+2%) and 507 million euros (+8%), and Portugal, with 198.027 tonnes (down 5%) and €216 million. Italy, while experiencing a decrease in volume (down 5% to 145.579 tonnes), recorded a 13% increase in value, reaching €246 million.

 

The European Union, a fundamental pillar

 

Within Europe, the European Union (EU) It has consolidated its position as the main market, absorbing 2,8 million tons, 1% more than in the first quarter of 2024. These sales to the EU represent 83% of Spain's total exports in volume. In value, exports to the EU reached €4.587 billion, up 10%, accounting for 80% of total sales.
