In a meeting held between Cecilio Peregrín and José María Pozancos, president and director of FEPEX respectively, together with Mariano Zapata and Joaquín Gómez, presidents of PROEXPORT and APOEXPA, conveyed to the Murcian president the urgent need to strengthen financial support within the framework of the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). “It is essential to prioritise producer organisations and increase community aid,” the representatives said.
The meeting also addressed the European trade policyIndustry leaders called for tighter controls on trade agreements with third countries. “It is urgent to implement concrete measures to ensure equality in phytosanitary and environmental conditions,” they emphasized.
Among the main concerns are improving competitiveness, reciprocity in imports and water and phytosanitary management.
In addition, the structural challenges affecting agricultural holdings were discussed: water shortage, lack of effective pesticides against pests, labour shortage and increased labour costs. These factors seriously threaten fruit and vegetable production.
Finally, Cecilio Peregrín thanked López Miras for allowing them to present their demands. “These concerns will also be presented to other regional officials,” Peregrín said at the end of the meeting.
