The direct flight will establish a vital connection between the FedEx Transshipment Center at Taoyuan International Airport, Taiwan, and FedEx Incheon Gateway at Incheon International Airport, South KoreaThis strategic initiative is expected to boost the activities of import and export of Taiwan, offering greater flexibility and reliability in the transport of goods and consolidating the island's position in the panorama global commercial.
Paul Sousa, General Manager of FedEx Taiwan, highlighted the significance of this launch. “This inaugural direct flight between Taiwan and South Korea is an important milestone in our operations and underscores our commitment to strengthening connections within the Asia-Pacific region,” said Sousa. He added that the optimization of the FedEx air network seeks to improve the capacity and reliability of logistics services, allowing Taiwanese companies to access new markets, drive innovation, and strengthen their global competitiveness, which in turn reinforces Taiwan’s strategic position in the International Trade.
Trade between Taiwan and South Korea has experienced remarkable growth in recent years, driven largely by technological and electronic advances.
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan, South Korea has established itself as one of the island's main trading partners, contributing significantly to Taiwan's total exports. High-tech products, such as semiconductors and electronic components, are mainstays of these exports. Statistics from January 2025 reveal that South Korea's share of Taiwan's total exports semiconductor exports to Taiwan increased from 6.4% in 2020 to 14.5% in 2024. This new flight is projected to further boost trade and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
This launch is part of FedEx's ongoing efforts to optimize its global airline network. In December 2024, the company introduced a new flight to strengthen connectivity between Asia Pacific, India and Europe. Subsequently, in April 2025, FedEx launched its first nonstop flight from Singapore to Anchorage, USA, strengthening connectivity between Southeast Asia and key U.S. markets. These actions demonstrate FedEx's strategic vision and commitment to supporting the efficient flow of global trade.
