The central event of the Global Forum was the presentation of OREVE Report 2025, a collaboration between the Observatory of Electrical Rehabilitation of Housing in Spain (OREVE) and the General Council of Technical Architecture of Spain (CGATEThe study revealed a crucial piece of data that demonstrates a "significant disconnect" with the zero-emissions goals of the European Union for 2050: Eight out of ten renovations did not prioritize decarbonization.
Experts pointed to the urgent need to inform and educate the public about the benefits of energy efficiency and decarbonization in the home. Juan López-AsiaínCGATE highlighted the lack of technical knowledge among users when purchasing a home. Meanwhile, Adrian Escobar, technical advisor of Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, pointed to short-term profitability as a decision factor, where energy efficiency is not yet adequately considered.
Oscar QuerolThe Director General of AFME stressed the importance of transforming the current housing stock, which is mostly second-hand, and the need to promote concepts such as comprehensive rehabilitation.
Recognition of Young Talent: Installers Competition
Another highlight was the Young Installers Competition awards ceremonyThe largest edition in its history, with 45 competitors. Organized with the support of FENIE, this initiative highlighted the technical skills of the sector's future generations.
The finalists demonstrated their skills in electrical installation, self-consumption, automation, and digitalization of systems. The winner was Carlos Larranz (Huesca), followed by Manuel Hidalgo (Córdoba) and Hugo Gutiérrez (Toledo). The event served to highlight Vocational Training as the driving force that will provide the thousands of new professionals needed for self-consumption projects, smart grids, and the electrification of demand in the coming years.
Boost to Electrification and Renewables
Specialized forums, such as Genera Solar Forum (coordinated by UNEF), concluded their agenda focusing on the electrification of demand. Víctor Marcos, Director General of Energy Planning and Coordination at MITECO, and José Donoso, Director General of UNEF, agreed that electrification is an "immediate reality" that must advance at the same pace as renewable energy development.
Marcos emphasized that the commitment to renewables has been key to Spain becoming the fastest-growing economy in the EU, urging everyone to take advantage of this opportunity.
Other sessions at the CAE Forum, KNX Forum and the North Convention Center addressed energy efficiency, building automation, industrial decarbonization and renewable hydrogen, highlighting the role of digitalization and innovation in energy management.
Next Edition
The first International Week of Electrification and Decarbonization has concluded with a generally positive assessment. The next event, which will once again bring together GENERA and MATELEC at IFEMA MADRID, already has a date: 24 of the 26 November 2026.
