Grupo Antolin inaugurated its eighth plant in the country today in Huamantla (Tlaxcala, Mexico). The plant will manufacture the roof, doors, pillars, and seat backs for the new Audi Q5. It is also planned to house other projects from the Volkswagen factory in Puebla.
The Governor of Tlaxcala, Mariano González Zarur; the Spanish ambassador to Mexico, Luis Fernández-Cid de las Alas Pumariño; and the mayor of Tlaxcala, José Alejandro Aguilar, accompanied the company's president, Ernesto Antolín, during the event.
With this new center, Grupo Antolin expands its industrial network in one of the world's leading automotive markets. To undertake this project, Grupo Antolin has invested nearly €35 million ($37,6M) in a multifunctional plant that will employ nearly 300 people and more than 40 suppliers, many of whom are Mexican. "We are all aware of the enormous responsibility this project entails, which is why we have made a great effort, both materially and humanly, to equip ourselves with one of our most technologically advanced facilities and, in this way, be able to adequately respond to the needs of such an important client as Audi," said Grupo Antolin President Ernesto Antolín.
This center boasts the latest technologies required for the manufacture of these products. For example, it can produce up to 4.000 door variations. In fact, the factory is planned to meet a demand of 170.000 vehicles annually, although this figure could increase. If this figure is met, the new Tlaxcala factory would be able to have a roof and four doors ready every two minutes. This new opening has posed an enormous challenge. The project was developed in close collaboration with the client's headquarters in Germany, which required mobilizing professionals from teams in Mexico, Spain, Germany, and the Czech Republic. In terms of training, the company has made a tremendous effort to provide professionals with the necessary knowledge. To this end, nearly 50 people have traveled to Burgos, Valladolid, Munich, and Turnov to learn all the details of the new project and deliver an excellent final product in line with the client's needs. In this way, the company has maintained its commitment to quality, a foundation that has guided the company throughout its history. Finally, Grupo Antolin moved 121 containers in three months with all the necessary materials.
Consolidation in Mexico
The opening of the new center in Tlaxcala represents a further step in Grupo Antolin's industrial consolidation in Mexico, one of the world's most important markets in the automotive sector. "The country has laid the foundation to become a global benchmark in the sector," added Ernesto Antolín. Automakers have shown a strong commitment to the Mexican market in recent years, and as a result, the country has established itself as the seventh-largest vehicle producer in the world, with production forecasts of 4,7 million vehicles in 2018, up from 3,4 million in 2015. In this regard, 2016 marks 20 years since the company's arrival in the Aztec country, where it currently has eight centers and two technical and commercial offices that employ more than 4.000 people. Over the years, Mexico has become the company's fourth most important market. It's worth noting that, in addition to the recently opened center, the company added two more in Toluca and Saltillo, following the acquisition of Magna's interiors division. This transaction closed on August 31st.
