This innovative Extended Producer Responsibility System (SCRAP) industrial becomes the first of its kind operated from outside Portugal, opening new avenues for Spanish agro-industrial companies to comply with European regulations in the neighboring country.
APOVE will allow companies in the Spanish agricultural and industrial sector that operate in Portugal Sustainably manage the packaging waste generated by their products, in line with the requirements of new European legislation. This regulation requires agricultural producers to be responsible for the collection, recycling, and recovery of their packaging.

He also emphasized that "agriculture and livestock farming can no longer be excluded from the new European sustainability framework."
Heura has a solid track record in the creation of SCRAP in Spain, being a pioneer in entities such as AEVAE, a benchmark in packaging for the agricultural sector, and RATE, focused on industrial packaging. Both platforms bring together more than 2.300 companies, many of them in the agri-food sector.
The new European legislation has generated significant interest in agricultural multinationals such as YARA, SQM or Haifa Group, who seek to ensure environmental compliance in all markets where they operate.
From its operations center in the Valencian Community, Heura is expanding its sustainability model internationally, strengthening Spain's and its agricultural sector's leadership in the circular economy.

Portugal currently recycles more than 500.000 tons of packaging per year, a figure that is expected to increase significantly with the inclusion of industrial and commercial waste. "APOVE aims to channel a substantial portion of this new volume, complementing the work of domestic operators," Guaita said.
