However, in Latin America There are other brands that are well established in consumer preference. For example, Free market, with a presence in practically the entire region, or the emporium of Americanas SA, parent company of some of the most visited e-commerce sites in Brazilas the Americanas.com and Submarino.
Online shopping pages in the format of 'marketplaceThey have the unique feature of serving as a platform for other stores to sell to their customers in exchange for a commission. Thanks to this business model, Free market traded goods worth close to US$28.400 billion in 2021, 35,5% more than the previous year.
Americanas SA, fruit of the merger between American and B2W Stores, also recorded positive results. Compared to 2020, its digital marketplace expanded its sales by more than 45%, reaching a gross merchandise volume (GMV, for its acronym in English) of 4.150 million dollars in 2021. While the also Brazilian Magazine Luiza (Magalu) saw its GMV grow by 69% that year, the Chilean Falabella experienced a slight drop compared to the 763 million dollars sold during the first year of the pandemic.
