Iberdrola launches the largest offshore wind farm in the United States

With a power of 806 MW

Iberdrola has begun the commissioning of Vineyard Wind I, the largest offshore wind farm in the United States. The project, located about 20 kilometers off the coast of Massachusetts, has a capacity of 806 megawatts (MW) and will supply electricity to more than 400.000 homes in the state.

The facility is already supplying green energy to in Massachusetts, and is expected to have five turbines operating at full capacity by the beginning of the year. The project has had an investment of 3.000 million dollars (more than 2.700 million euros at the current exchange rate) guaranteed by contracts with the three main electrical companies in the state.

Each of the park's 62 turbines has a nominal capacity of 13 megawatts (MW), making it the largest turbine in the Western world. Thus, a single rotation can power a Massachusetts home for an entire day.

The project has created more than 3.000 jobs during its construction, and is expected to create another 1.000 permanent jobs during its operation.
