José Manuel Albares participates in the summer course: “Spanish Cooperation and Global Solidarity: a transformative agenda”

The Minister highlighted the importance of 2023 as a key year for the Spanish cooperation agenda, especially due to the Spanish presidency of the Council of the European Union to strengthen the relationship with Latin America and the Caribbean and promote the strategic autonomy of both regions.

Today, July 14, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Albares, participated in the course organized by the Carolina Foundation, within the programming of the Summer Courses of the Complutense University of Madrid: “Spanish Cooperation and Global Solidarity: a transformative agenda”, which took place from July 10 to 14, in San Lorenzo del Escorial.

The minister has highlighted the importance of Law on Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Global Solidarity, approved in February 2023, as a fundamental element that will serve as a framework for renewed Spanish cooperation, with greater impact, than under the guidelines of the 2030 Agenda and on the basis of policy coherence, it is presented as a transformative instrument to face common challenges in terms of the fight against poverty, climate change, the promotion of gender equality and inequality.

To Jose Manuel Albares, cooperation is part of the values ​​of the Spanish people, justice and solidarity being two of the fundamental principles for their development. The Minister highlighted the importance of 2023 as a key year for the Spanish cooperation agenda, especially due to the Spanish presidency of the Council of the European Union to strengthen the relationship with Latin America and the Caribbean and promote the strategic autonomy of both regions.

The course was directed by Pilar Cancela, Secretary of State for International Cooperation and José Antonio Sanahuja, director of the Carolina Foundation.
