José Luis Bonet warns about the risks of protectionism for growth, employment and inflation

 

In a context marked by global economic uncertainty, the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, José Luis Bonet, has raised his voice to warn about the dangers of protectionism“Protectionism offers no advantages in the medium and long term. On the contrary, it can negatively impact both economic growth and job creation in the countries involved, as well as increase inflation, which undermines the purchasing power of both businesses and families and hinders central banks from lowering interest rates,” Bonet stated during his participation in New Economy Forum.

 

Given this situation, Bonet has called on companies, especially those SMEs, not to stop its international expansion due to the current difficulties. "The commitment to innovation, the search for new engines of growth, and the exploitation of the opportunities presented by the artificial intelligence, the decarbonization of the economy and the move towards greater strategic autonomy,” he emphasized.

 

The president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce also highlighted the importance of industry as a "key sector for strengthening our economy, improving productivity, creating quality jobs, and expanding the international presence of our companies." In this regard, he expressed his support for the search for a State Pact for the Industrial Law, which is currently undergoing parliamentary procedure.

 

Bonet has called on companies, especially SMEs, not to stop their international expansion due to the current difficulties.

 

 

Furthermore, Bonet has stressed the need to address the structural reforms Pending measures to guarantee the consolidation of economic growth.
