"Banco Sabadell generates greater value for its shareholders as a standalone entity," Oliu stated, noting that the positive performance of the stock has boosted the target price set by analysts.
During a meeting held at the entity's corporate center in Sant Cugat, Oliu, with the CEO Cesar Gonzalez-Bueno, highlighted the bank's solid profitability prospects. The Chairman underlined that the return on tangible equity (RoTE) reached 13,1% at the end of the first half and is expected to remain above that level by 2025.
For his part, González-Bueno assured that Banco Sabadell "is an attractive project with a future that has not yet reached its peak." He added that since 2021, the bank's strategy has transformed its results, achieving record profit levels and consolidating a strong capital position. "Our profitability is sustainable and has not yet peaked," he stated.
Regarding shareholder remuneration, both executives confirmed that the bank will distribute around 30% of its market capitalization over the next 18 months, which will amount to a payment of 53 cents per share, equivalent to 2.900 billion euros charged against the 2024 and 2025 results. González-Bueno reaffirmed that "our commitment to shareholder remuneration is firm."
Oliu also addressed the Proposal for a merger by BBVA, which was rejected for significantly undervaluing Banco Sabadell's project. The president anticipated a long and complex process, due to the hostile nature of the operation, which could be extended until mid-2025In this regard, both Oliu and González-Bueno insisted on the importance of BBVA clarifying all the details of the offer before the shareholders make a final decision.
