The event was attended by the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain, Diana morant, and brought together beneficiaries of various scholarship programs promoted by Iberdrola. One of the highlights was the presentation by Professor Jarillo-Herrero, a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the institutions associated with the Program Iberdrola Universities (Iberdrola U). This program includes collaborations with internationally renowned universities such as Yale, Harvard, Oxford, Strathclyde, the University of Salamanca, the Pontifical University of Comillas, the Tecnológico de Monterrey, the University of Qatar, and the University of Queensland.
Ignacio Galán, president of Iberdrola, stressed the importance of strengthening ties between the academic training and employabilityparticularly in strategic sectors such as energy. "This center trains approximately 13.000 people each year to adapt to new technologies. This allows them to continue working, providing knowledge and services to a society that increasingly demands more electricity, better services, and greater capabilities. This is what we aim to achieve with these scholarships, ensuring that the best and brightest always have the resources they need to develop," Galán stated during his address. He also thanked King Felipe VI for his continued support of this initiative.
The Iberdrola International Scholarship Program has benefited more than 400 people in the last three years, with a significant proportion joining the company's workforce. This initiative is part of Iberdrola's comprehensive strategy to attract and retain young talent, which has resulted in the hiring of more than 30.000 young people in the last decade.
Scholarship Program Details:
- Iberdrola International Master's Scholarships: They promote training in strategic areas such as engineering, mathematics, digital marketing, environmental sciences and 'big data' at universities in Spain, the United Kingdom and Mexico.
- Energy for Future: Aimed at postdoctoral researchers, they promote research and innovation in the energy sector, in collaboration with 15 international universities.
- Iberdrola Fulbright Scholarships: They offer postgraduate training at universities in the United States in key areas for sustainable energy and technological development.
- Carolina Foundation Scholarships: They facilitate the development of students from Latin America and Portugal in energy and environmental specialties at Spanish universities.
- ICAI Scholarships: They support university students with high potential in energy disciplines.
Additionally, diplomas were awarded for other specialized training programs:
- Restoration scholarships at the Museo Nacional del Prado and the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum.
- ADOP scholarships, in collaboration with the Spanish Olympic Committee, for Paralympic athletes.
- Start by Educating (STEM 4 GRLS) scholarships, to promote scientific and technological vocations in girls.
