Logistics operators achieved revenues of 4.000 billion euros in 2016

The aggregate turnover of logistics operators grew by 4% in 2016, reaching 4.000 billion euros.

This evolution was supported by the dynamism of activity in some of the main industrial branches of the clients, such as the automotive, pharmaceutical and clothing-textile industries, the rise in demand derived from international transport and the significant increase in transactions of E-commerce.

 

Total revenues, including those derived from storage of goods and the associated operations carried out on stored goods (handling, transport and distribution) and excluding the business derived from services not associated with storage operations, amounted to 4.000 billion euros.

 

The business derived from the storage and auxiliary operations Warehouse sales grew by 4,2% in 2016, to €1.845 billion. Revenue from transport and distribution of stored goods grew somewhat less, but accounted for 54% of the sector's turnover.

 

 

 

Sectoral activity continued to be boosted by the expansion of domestic demand, exports and e-commerce, as well as by the increase in the degree of outsourcing of logistics, in a favourable macroeconomic context.

 

 

 

In the short and medium term, there will continue to be an increase in the number and volume of Logistic operationsThe growth in demand will offset the effect of pressure on prices, leading to a moderate increase in sectoral turnover, which is estimated to grow by 3-4% annually in the period 2017-2018.

The implementation of various acquisition and absorption operations of companies continues, however, to lead to a progressive increase in the degree of concentration of supply.
