You have recently been appointed Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development for the Government of Aragon. Of the many responsibilities you will now have and all the projects undertaken or planned for the remaining months of this legislative term, which ones will you be following most closely?
The eleventh edition of Matelec will be held next October at IFEMA. The International Electrical and Electronic Equipment Exhibition, which has long enjoyed prestige and recognition on the trade fair circuit worldwide, has been carrying out an intensive international promotional campaign for several months. The importance of the lighting sector is reflected in the space it occupies at the 2002 edition of Matelec, with a total of two dedicated pavilions. Miguel Tev, president of the National Association of Lighting Manufacturers (Anfalum), spoke with Moneda Única.
Miguel Tev, president of Anfalum.
– Is the future of lighting heading towards energy savings alongside the development of new solutions that improve lighting quality?
The main technological advances are linked to light sources and, consequently, to electronics and the new materials being developed. Electronics are being incorporated into the product, its auxiliary components, and the environment, as intelligent control of installations becomes increasingly common.
Energy efficiency is one of the keys to the current development of the sector, highlighting the new, more efficient lamps and new technologies that achieve, with the same power, a greater luminous flux, resulting in quality, visual comfort and savings.
"Exports have acquired significant importance in our sector."
– Positive and negative aspects of the lighting sector. Domestic market trends. What is the preferred/preferred customer type?
The lighting sector is multidisciplinary due to its clientele. I'm referring to the professional sector, not the residential sector, where consumption, fashion, and design are the primary factors and where, unfortunately, there is a lot of unqualified individuals working in the industry.
At Anfalun we fight for the existence of specific lighting projects, broken down within large civil building works, with electrical, lighting and energy efficiency parameters.
This year, coinciding with Matelec, we plan to launch the first technical magazine on school lighting, with the clear intention of enhancing quality in our sector and working on improving performance and visual comfort.
– What are Anfalum's medium and long-term strategies and projects?
In the medium and long term, Anfalum is looking for new services that will allow the association to achieve financial autonomy.
– What do you think will be the evolution of the sector in the coming years?
The future trend in the field of lighting technology is the grouping of new technologies that will allow the control and optimization of the use of light within a concept that we could call "Intelligent Light".
– What is the importance of exports?
Exports are a key component of a company's revenue, and in our sector, they have become extremely important. The average percentage of exports relative to total revenue ranges between 30% and 40%, depending on the specific subsector. Our main export destinations are the European Union, South America, Arab countries, and the Far East.
– Matelec has grown compared to previous editions. What is the importance and value of the event for the association?
In the 2002 edition, we will occupy pavilions 3 and 5. Within the framework of our close collaboration with IFEMA and MATELEC, we believe we have completed one stage, and the next step should be to incorporate a different type of visitor: engineers, architects, specifiers, and designers, who are increasingly involved in decision-making within our sector. Likewise, the internationalization of the sector should entail, on the one hand, a greater number of foreign companies and, on the other hand, a greater number of visitors from the countries to which we export.
In this regard, I would like to highlight the support being provided by the Matelec organization. Regarding ICEX, I would like to emphasize the effort it is making, jointly with Anfalum, to enhance the presence of foreign buyers through reverse trade missions, which have significantly contributed to the internationalization and external promotion of Matelec.
