The new Memorandum of Understanding, signed during the TOURISE 2025 event held in Riyadh alongside the World Economic Forum, contemplates the investment, development and operation of hotel projects that will total a minimum of 1.000 rooms in the country.
The signature was signed by Gabriel EscarrerPresident and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, and Qusai Al-FakhriCEO of TDF. This agreement reinforces the Spanish hotel chain's commitment to the Saudi market, where it has already operated its own corporate office for two years and is managing a regional expansion with four hotels in operation or development (three in Dubai and one in Bahrain).
Vision 2030: Riyadh, Mecca and Medina, Priority Destinations
The collaboration will focus on key destinations aligned with the National Tourism Strategy (NTS) and the ambitious plan Vision 2030 from Saudi Arabia, which seeks to diversify its economy and consolidate its position as a global, sustainable, and modern tourist destination. Priority cities for the development of new projects include Riyadh, Mecca, Medina, Asher and the Eastern Province.
At TOURISE 2025, a global tourism platform organized by the Ministry of Tourism and the Saudi Tourism Authority, Gabriel Escarrer emphasized the importance of the agreement: “It is an honor to renew and strengthen our collaboration with TDF, with whom we share the goal of promoting a high-quality, more socially and environmentally responsible tourism sector. With this updated agreement, we are taking a new and more significant step in boosting our expansion in this country, building on our 70 years of excellence and commitment to destinations.”
For its part, Qusai Al-FakhriThe CEO of TDF, a public fund essential for boosting strategic projects, stated that the Memorandum of Understanding "strengthens our efforts to develop tourism in line with the objectives of Vision 2030 and the National Tourism Strategy. It is another step towards transforming the Kingdom into a leading global tourist destination."
Meliá Hotels International's global experience, especially in the holiday segment, is considered a key pillar by Saudi authorities for the achievement of this ambitious plan.
