The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has supervised the progress of the railway connection works Outer Port of A Coruñahighlighting that this infrastructure "will open the door to rail traffic, which will reinforce the potential of its activity both nationally and internationally."
During his visit, Puente witnessed the breakthrough of the main railway tunnel, 3,7 km long, which represents 55% of the total length of the 6,7 km section that will connect the Outer Port with the Atlantic AxisThe trains are expected to start running in 2027, which will allow "more than 600.000 tons to be moved by train per year" in Punta Langosteira.
This project, funded by Next Generation of the European Union, has involved an investment of 124,8 million euros and is the result of collaboration between the Ministry of Transport, Adif AV, Puertos del Estado and the Port Authority of A Coruña.
In addition, Puente announced that the creation of a new railway terminal in the port's area of influence is being studied to "serve the traffic currently received by the Coruña-San Diego freight terminal."
