Murcia consolidates itself as a leader in technology exports packaging and food industry. In 2022, sales in this sector reached 464 million euros, which placed the Region as the second most exporting province in Spain in this ambit. In the first eight months of 2023, exports have already reached 281 million euros, which consolidates this trend.
The Minister of Economy, Finance and Business, Luis Alberto Marin, highlighted that “the Region of Murcia has a very powerful food sector, which has opted for innovation to create new products that respond to the needs of an international market in continuous transformation, and this is reflected in the growth of exports. , which place us in leadership positions in Spain as a whole.”
Packaging technology and food industry sales were mainly focused on United States, Morocco, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. In recent years, the regional government has provided companies in the sector with access to markets around the world with a total of 15 actions, specifically, seven fairs, six direct trade missions and one virtual trade mission. These actions have been carried out in various destinations, such as Chile, Egypt, Brazil, Colombia, Algeria or Peru.
Recently, the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Business has organized, through Development Institute (Info)together with Murcia Chamber of Commerce, the participation of five Murcian companies in the 'Gulfood Manufacturing' food fair in Dubai. This fair is one of the most important events for the sector and this year it had 3.000 stands from more than 80 countries.
Each Murcian company has its own exhibition space within a grouped pavilion that gives them the opportunity to present their products and services to more than 36.000 visitors who were expected in this edition. The main objective of businessmen at this fair is to establish business contacts. Among the regional delegation are manufacturers of packaging machinery and engineering, as well as food and beverage processing machinery, and ingredient producers.
This action is part of the Foreign Promotion Plan of the Region of Murcia, which runs the Info together with the Chambers of Commerce of the Region in order to support exporting companies or companies with a vocation to be so on their path to internationalization. Through this plan, information is provided and companies are trained, in addition to developing actions at destination and financing the needs to position the products or services of Murcian companies in foreign markets.
