Spanish Investment in Renewable Energies
Through its international subsidiary GPG, the energy company will develop projects in the region of Queensland a plant that will combine 330 MW of solar energy y 180 MW of battery storageThe project, called Fraser Coast, will become operational in 2028 and already has a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) that guarantees the viability of the revenue.
The Spanish multinational Naturgy reinforces its commitment to internationalization with an investment exceeding 300 millones de euros in Australia. The capital will be used to develop its largest green initiative in the country: the project Fraser Coast, located in the Australian state of Queensland.
This new facility stands out for its hybrid configurationintegrating a capacity of 330 megawatts (MW) of photovoltaic generation along with a system 180 MW of battery storageThis is the second complex of this type that the firm has developed in Australia, an operating model that provides a great deal of flexibility to the local electrical system and allows for maximum optimization of the management of the clean energy produced. This infrastructure is especially strategic in a market marked by price volatility and increasing grid constraints.
To ensure the long-term profitability of the investment, the Fraser Coast complex is backed by a power purchase agreement (PPA) with a validity of 10 years. This contract guarantees the sale of the renewable electricity generated, giving the plant a clear revenue visibility and demonstrating the attractiveness of Naturgy's decarbonization solutions for large industrial consumers. The project is now entering its construction phase and is scheduled to be commissioned this year. 2028.
The Australian market represents a strategic pillar in the energy company's international expansion policy. Currently, Naturgy operates a portfolio of 1,3 gigawatts (GW) in the country. Its diversified portfolio includes six wind farms, two solar plants, its first global battery facility (ATC Battery), and the hybrid complex of CunderdinFurthermore, it has a strong geographical presence with operations in Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Queensland.
