Navantia begins production of the BAM-IS for the Moroccan Navy and Navy

The maneuvers begin

The Navantia shipyards in Puerto Real and San Fernando have begun the production phase of a Maritime Action Underwater Intervention Vessel (BAM-IS), for the Navy and a high-altitude patrol vessel for the Royal Moroccan Navy.

In both cases, the maneuver consisted of cutting the first sheet of a pilot block to fine-tune the production systems. The construction of this block, belonging to the ship's engine room, will allow the new digital design, control and management tools implemented in the shipyards to be put into operation and tested. The BAM-IS will be the first ship built in the stillero of port Royal in which these tools will be used.

 

The BAM-IS, which will be named 'Poseidon', will be the specialized and equipped platform for the rescue and support of submarine rescue. Likewise, it will be the main Navy unit to support diving operations, expected to replace the rescue vessel in 2026. Rescue 'Neptune'.

 

The manufacture of the BAM-IS responds to a need associated with the S-80 submarines in order to provide support and guarantee the safety of the crews throughout their operational life.

 

The BAM-IS vessel has a markedly modular character. With its large working deck, more than 400 m2, it allows the installation of different modular systems that allow it to be configured in various mission profiles: diving operations, rescue or rescue of submarines, protection of underwater heritage, etc. To achieve this, it also has an innovative propulsion and electrical generation plant, based on direct current technologies, energy storage systems and cycloidal thrusters, which provides it with the ability to maintain highly precise dynamic positioning even in adverse weather conditions, all this, complying with the most demanding environmental standards.

 

Furthermore, this new unit for the Navy will be capable of operating with the NATO Submarine Rescue System “NSRS”. This quality, among others, will allow it to obtain, for the first time for a Navy ship, the 'MOSHIP' to act as a mother ship for the Salvage and rescue of NATO submarines. On the other hand, it will have unmanned vehicles (ROV) capable of carrying out underwater explorations and interventions remotely.

 

On the other hand, at the San Fernando shipyard, identical maneuvers have been undertaken in the manufacturing workshop to build a high-altitude patrol vessel for the Royal Moroccan Navy.

 

The construction of this patrol vessel for Morocco also includes a technical-logistical support package (spare parts, tools and technical documentation), including technical training services for the personnel of the Royal Moroccan Navy in Spain.

 

The patrol boat is a solution that guarantees long periods of deployment at sea, with very low operation and life cycle costs. To this end, the design of its systems aims to maintain operability, maintainability and reliability with a reduced staff.
