The maritime industry of Cantabria has been highlighted in the recent edition of the SMM Hamburg 2024, held from 3 to 6 September, with a solid representation of companies from the region. In addition to the Maritime Cluster of Cantabria (BRAND), companies such as Reinosa Forgings & Castings, SILECMAR, FAED Group, Metcoex, ASTANDER, Hawke Transit System, JC NAVALIPS and CASUSO PROPELLERS, among other relevant firms in the Autonomous Community.
The Society for the Regional Development of Cantabria (SODERCAN), in its capacity as partner of the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), and in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Cantabria, has promoted a group visit to this international fair, considered one of the most important in the maritime industrial sector. The main objective has been to facilitate Cantabrian companies' access to opportunities for commercial and technological cooperation through B2B meetings with companies, technological centres and clusters of Germany, .
With an attendance of more than 40.000 visitors and more than 2.000 exhibitors, the SMM consolidates its position as a benchmark in the global maritime industry
Among the most notable actions, SODERCAN promoted an exploratory meeting for collaboration between the Cantabrian cluster MARCA and the Maritimes Cluster Norddeutschland, which brings together more than 350 members from companies, technology centres and institutions in northern Germany. This initiative opens new doors to establish alliances in the maritime field between Cantabria and the German region.
The 2024 edition of the SMM Fair has placed special emphasis on the most recent trends related to the digitalisation and the transition towards green energy in the maritime sector. The main topics addressed were alternative propulsion systems, emissions reduction, the circular economy, automation, new materials and safety.
