Sener plays an important role in the Salvador–Itaparica Bridge project in Brazil.

 

 

 

April 4th marked the culmination of the crucial geotechnical survey campaign for the ambitious bridge project Salvador-Itaparica, a public-private initiative promoted by the state of Bahia. The closing ceremony, held in the picturesque bay of Todos-os-Santos, brought together representatives of the promoting association and the successful construction companies, the renowned CCCC and CRBE.

 

The event was attended by the distinguished presence of Débora Prieto and Bruno Vellasco, who represented the PVI team from the Sener engineering firm, led by Jordi Revoltos. Sener's participation has been fundamental in various stages of the project, ranging from the value engineering and the preliminary project until the development of two phases of the basic project (Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4).

 

Sener's expertise also extended to the drilling campaign itself. The company provided an on-site geologist to oversee the drilling work, complemented by a strong team. Back Office of geotechnics in Madrid and São Paulo, led by Dario de la Peña. This specialized team was responsible for the exhaustive analysis of the survey reports and laboratory tests submitted weekly by the client.

 

For twelve intense months, the Sener team deployed its expertise in every phase of the drilling, overseeing boreholes that reached a record depth of up to 200 meters, the deepest ever drilled on Brazilian soil. This significant milestone was achieved despite overcoming extremely challenging conditions, including a 400-meter-wide navigation channel and water depths of up to 60 meters. The success of this campaign reinforces the quality and reliability of the geotechnical data, fundamental pillars for the final design of this momentous infrastructure project.

 

The future Salvador-Itaparica Bridge, with an impressive length of nearly 12.500 meters, will have an imposing 922-meter cable-stayed main span, designed to guarantee a minimum clearance of 85 meters above high water. This central span will be flanked by two extensive access bridges: one 4.635 meters long on Itaparica Island and another 6.876,85 meters long at the Salvador de Bahia end.

 

Thanks to the meticulous and rigorous work carried out by Sener, the construction companies CCCC and CRBE now have the essential models and technical documentation to move forward steadily toward the crucial stage of foundation construction and the subsequent assembly of the structures.

 

This achievement not only represents a significant advance for the materialization of the Salvador-Itaparica bridge, but also consolidates the excellent Sener's positioning in the field of large-scale engineering projects.
