Six Latin American countries participate in a training course for trainers in the Port of Valencia

UNCTAD Train for Trade Program

The workshop, organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), aims to help port communities in Latin American countries improve the capabilities of their middle management.

La Port Authority of Valencia (APV) These days it hosts the port training program “Train For Trade”, organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

 

The program "Train For Trade”, which has been taught in Spanish since 2007 and in which the APV and the participate Port of Gijón, has been attended by representatives from the public and private sectors of the port communities of Argentina, Peru, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Bolivia.

 

Gonzalo Ayala, responsible for the program Train for TradeHe emphasized that “the objective of these courses is to maintain the spirit of improvement in the ports of Latin America taking as a reference to Valenciaa leading international port.” He also highlighted that “Valencia has been collaborating with the for many years UNCTAD to promote the training of middle management in ports of developing countries by providing their experts and logistical support.”

The program Train for Trade It consists of four modules: international trade and transport, the organization of a port system, the operation of a port system, and future challenges for ports. For two weeks, the fifteen participants received training on topics such as the relationships between the port, shippers, and shipping companies; port organization at the national and local levels; services provided to ships and cargo; safety and health; environmental protection; and quality, among others.

 

Collaboration between the APV and UNCTAD

 

La Port Authority of Valencia collaborates with United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in port training programs since 2001. In 2007, both entities signed a collaboration agreement for the development of the port training program Train for Trade in Spanish-speaking developing countries that has included actions such as technical assistance missions to countries of Latin America and holding seminars in Valencia and Gijón.
