Smart manufacturing boosts the competitiveness and sustainability of the automotive sector in Spain

These developments are aimed at strengthening the competitiveness and sustainability of the automotive industry, a sector in which Spain is the second largest vehicle producer in Europe and eighth worldwide.

Cecilia Medina, SERNAUTO's Innovation and Talent Manager, stressed that "we are very competitive, but in the current geopolitical and transformation context, we have to be even more so." He underlined the importance of investing in innovation and developing a national strategy aligned with the needs of the industry.

For its part, Eduardo Beltran de Nanclares, director of Innovation at the Mondragón Corporation, spoke about the use of technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital twins, which allow predicting product behavior and reducing errors, which improves sustainability and competitiveness by reducing costs and materials.

Finally, Maria Manso from Naitec He highlighted projects focused on plants that reduce their carbon footprint and on new forms of recycling, noting that “a large economic investment is required to adapt processes and plants to this transformation,” stressing the need for support from national and European financing programs.

"Made in Spain" innovations are driving the automotive industry towards greater efficiency, with more agile, automated and sustainable processes, ensuring Spain's leadership in the production of vehicles and components in the international context.
