A vehicle with extremely advanced technology

Last 2019, during the UITP Global Public Transport Summit, Representatives of Solaris y RATP Group (Region Autonome des Transports Parisiens) signed a contract for the leasing and testing of the hydrogen bus model Urbino 12. These tests, which will be carried out over several weeks, will serve to RATP test the operational capabilities of the vehicle in regular passenger traffic, and will be developed in the southern area of Paris. Specifically, the vehicle will be parked in a warehouse in the district of Thiais and will refuel at the Jouy station in Josas, located southwest of the capital.

The hydrogen bus Urbino 12 It is an extremely advanced technology vehicle that uses a set of fuel cells with a power of 70 kW to generate energy. The hydrogen supplied to the fuel cells is converted into electricity which, in turn, directly powers the bus's drive line, which consists of an axle with electric motors, additionally the bus is also equipped with a battery Solaris High Power which acts as a complementary electrical energy storage system. Hydrogen is stored in the roof of the vehicle, with heat and steam being the only products in the chemical reaction that occurs in the fuel cell, hence the vehicle does not generate any harmful substances, being able to be comparable in terms of its performance with conventional vehicles in its range, thanks to the use of this innovative technology.
In fact, this Solaris vehicle model has generated great interest, and this has resulted in the fact that since its debut in June last year, Solaris has received orders for the Netherlands, Germany and Italy for a total of 57 buses, with the first vehicles expected to arrive in the cities of Bolzano, Cologne and Wuppertal later this year.
You have to remember that, RATP Group is the largest urban operator of France, providing daily service to millions of passengers in Paris and throughout the region of Ile-de-France. Likewise, it is important to highlight that the French operator has made the decision to completely transform its fleet of 4.700 buses into low-emission vehicles by 2025. To date, said fleet includes 19 buses Solaris Urbino 18 CNG, a contract for the delivery of the electric bus model is underway Solaris Urbino 8.9 LE.
