Spain is presented at the International Food Industry Fair “SIAL Shanghai”

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, carries out an official visit to the People's Republic of China from May 29 to June 2, where he plans to attend the “SIAL Shanghai” International Food Industry Fair.

Luis Planas also plans to meet in Pekin, with senior Chinese Government officials to promote agreements to open the Chinese market to new Spanish products.

 

Specifically, he will meet with the minister of the General Customs Administration, Yu Jianhua, and with the vice minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Ma Youxiang. During his stay in China, the minister will visit several organic fruit and vegetable production farms and will hold a meeting with importers and distributors of Spanish agri-food products.

 

SIAL Shanghai is one of the main agri-food fairs on the Asian continent

 

In this edition, the 200.000 square meters of exhibition area expect to host some 5.000 exhibitors from more than 70 countries. In this framework, Luis Planas will visit the stand installed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in collaboration with the Spanish Federation of Food and Beverage Industries (fairy tale), as well as the stands of the white-capped pig interprofessionals (Interport), sheep and goat meat (Interovic) and beef (Beef Proven).

 

From this space, the ministry wants to show visitors the characteristics and benefits of Spanish foods, as well as serve as a platform to connect with future Chinese buyers and other countries participating in this fair. In this sense, Minister Planas will take advantage of this trip to hold a meeting with a selection of importers and distributors from the agri-food sector with the aim of expanding and consolidating this market, the first large Spanish client in the Asian area and the third non-EU market, after United Kingdom and United States.

 

Minister Planas' visit to China takes place within the framework of the good technical relations that exist between the ministries of both countries, which have allowed progress in recent years in the negotiation of the various export protocols, which benefit both producers Spanish and Chinese consumers.

 

Since 2019, five have been signed in the agri-food field. protocols for export to the Asian country of olive paste, pet food, fodder oats, almonds and persimmon. Currently, both administrations are working to advance export agreements for sheep and goat meat, beef, poultry products, cherries, wild fish species, certain aquaculture species, and fish oil and meal for animal feed, among others.

 

The Chinese market is strategic for Spanish food due to its great commercial possibilities and its great growth potential. In 2023, agri-food products worth 1.881,54 million euros were exported to China, with a positive trade balance for Spain of 500,42 million euros (+19,4% compared to 2022).
