Spain leads the implementation of European Funds for Employment and Social Cohesion

The country has invested a total of 9.872 billion euros during the period 2014-2020, exceeding expectations and benefiting 8,7 million people, according to data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.

The Secretary of State for Labor, Joaquin Perez ReyPérez Rey emphasized at the "European Social Fund, Quo Vadis?" conference that this fund "is not simply a financial fund, but a tool that strengthens social cohesion and ensures that economic growth reaches all citizens." He highlighted that the ESF has been "the engine of investment" and has improved employment opportunities, vocational training, and social inclusion in Spain.

El Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, responsible for managing these funds, has managed to execute 100% of the allocated allocation before the planned deadline. For each euro invested, a return of 1,3 euros is estimated, which demonstrates the efficiency and positive impact of these investments on the Spanish economy.

In addition to its successful implementation, the ESF has also proven its effectiveness in terms of job placement. 30,6% of the beneficiaries of the employability measures have managed to access the labour market, especially those in vulnerable situations and with difficulties in labour integration.

Spain has already started the execution of the new European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), endowed with 11.300 billion euros for the period 2021-2027. In this new stage, the Government has prioritised youth employment, allocating 2.335 billion euros, 22% of the total, to specific policies for this group, exceeding the mandatory minimum of 12,5%.

ESF funds have been distributed through 23 operational programmes, one for each autonomous community and four at state level, covering areas such as social inclusion, employment, training and education. The main investment objectives have focused on promoting sustainable employment, social inclusion, the fight against poverty and discrimination, as well as improving education, vocational training and lifelong learning.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Economy considers that these results are a clear example of the proper use of European funds and their positive impact on Spanish society.
