Spain redefines its global role: Albares presents the new Foreign Action Strategy for a changing world

 

This document, presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Albares, establishes the roadmap for the Spanish foreign policy for the next four years, with a focus on the defense of democratic values, national interests and a greater role in the international scene.

 

The new Foreign Action Strategy arises as a response to a world undergoing profound transformation, where global challenges demand coordinated action and a clear vision. According to Minister Albares, this strategy is "ambitious and realistic," designed to "defend our values ​​in the world, establish our interests, and, all this, with the aim of guaranteeing and protecting the well-being and life plans of Spaniards."

 

The document is structured around three fundamental pillars:

 

• A more autonomous Europe: Spain is committed to a qualitative leap forward in European integration, promoting a stronger European Union capable of acting independently on the global stage.
• A committed Spain: Spain reaffirms its commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation, seeking to strengthen alliances and contribute to solving global challenges.
• A Spain that builds peace and security: Priority is given to promoting international peace and security, with a focus on the peaceful resolution of conflicts and strengthening global security.

 

"We are at a moment of unity, a moment to protect the common space of peace, security and democracy that is Europe," said Minister Albares during the presentation of the strategy.

 

To implement this new vision, the Strategy includes a series of measures, including:

• The redeployment of the diplomatic network to adapt it to new challenges.
• The digitalization of consular services to improve service to Spanish citizens abroad.
• Strengthening public diplomacy to project Spain's image around the world.
• The promotion of scientific, technological, economic and cultural diplomacy.

 

The development of this Strategy has been a participatory process, which has included the collaboration of various actors, including parliamentary groups, the private sector, civil society and experts in international relations.

 

The Council of Ministers has agreed to submit the text to Parliament for review and debate. Minister Albares will subsequently appear before the Foreign Affairs Committees of Congress and the Senate to explain the details of the Strategy, prior to its final approval.
