Spanish exports of fruits and vegetables have shown positive growth during the months of January and February, registering a 6,5% increase in value, reaching 3.739 billion euros. In terms of volume, there was a 2% increase compared to the same period last year, reaching 2,3 million tons. This is revealed by the data processed by FEPEX from Customs and Excise Department.
Within this overall picture, distinct trends can be observed among fruits and vegetables. The horticultural sector experienced a slight decline of 3% in export volume, with a total of 1,27 million tons. However, the value of these exports increased by 2,6%, reaching €2.103 billion.
In the breakdown by horticultural products, the pepper It was positioned as the most exported in volume with 203.052 tons (-0,5%), also generating a significant value of 455,5 million euros (+11%). It was closely followed by cucumber, with 194.166 tonnes (-3%) and revenues of €330 million (+18,5%). Other notable products were lettuce, with 191.278 tonnes (-0,2%) and 252 million euros (+12%), the tomato, with 161.185 tonnes (-15%) and 301 million euros (-0,6%), and the cabbage, with a 2% growth in volume to 155.645 tons and a 7% increase in value, reaching 240 million euros.
On the other hand, the fruit sector showed more robust performance, with growth in both volume and value. Fruit exports reached 1 million tons (+9,5%) and generated €1.636 billion (+12%). orange led sales with 375.220 tons and 340 million euros, registering notable growth of 18,5% and 9% respectively. tangerine also played an important role, with 341.345 tonnes (+3%) and a value of 467 million euros (+8%). The good performance of the strawberry in the months analyzed, with a volume of 45.849 tons (+5,5%) and a value of 222 million euros (+20%).
These initial data for the year reflect the strength of the Spanish fruit and vegetable sector in the international markets, demonstrating its ability to maintain growth in value despite fluctuations in the export volumes of some products.
