Spanish horticultural sector triumphs in Europe: exports reach a record figure in 2024

 

The year 2024 has witnessed a flourishing performance for the Spanish fruit and vegetable sector across international marketsWith an export volume of 12,3 million tonnes, the sector recorded an increase of 8% compared to the previous year. However, the most striking figure is the economic value generated, reaching 17.703 billion euros, reflecting a growth of 5% compared to 2023.

 

La European Union remains the priority destination for Spanish fruit and vegetable products, representing 81% of the total value of exports, with 14.362 million euros. If the market of the United Kingdom, which is positioned as the third largest destination, the percentage rises to 93%, which shows the crucial importance of Europe for the sector.

 

Within the EU, Germany, It is consolidated as the main market, with a turnover of 5.197 million euros, followed by France, with 2.825 billion euros. Other relevant markets include the Netherlands, Italy and Portugal, although the latter experienced a slight decline in its imports.

 

Regarding the volume, Germany, also leads the ranking, with 3,4 million tons imported from Spain, followed by France, with 2,1 million tons. The United KingdomFor its part, it imported 1,3 million tonnes, consolidating its position as a strategic market for the sector.

 

The data provided by FEPEX clarifies that only exports of fresh fruit and fresh vegetables are counted, with the following information on tariff chapters: "The data from the Department of Customs and Special Taxes of the Tax Agency, processed by FEPEX, only include exports of fresh fruit and vegetables, counted in tariff chapters 07 and 08; and specifically within chapter 07 corresponding to vegetables, they are counted from headings 0701 to 0709 and in chapter 08 relating to fruit, from heading 0803 to 0810."
