Submer Group has announced an investment of over €1.000 billion to develop a state-of-the-art data center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the former plant of Ercros en Flix (Cataluña). The project, which will be carried out by its subsidiary Rubix Data CentersIts objective is to strengthen sovereign digital infrastructure in Europa and revitalize the region's economy by creating up to 150 skilled jobs.

A strategic project for digital sovereignty
The project was presented on July 11th at an institutional event presided over by the president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Salvador Illa, together with the Minister of Business and Work, Miquel SàmperThe initiative is part of the reindustrialization roundtables program, designed to find new productive uses for former industrial plants, and has the support of Departament d’Empresa i Treball.
The development will take place in two phases and, once operational, is expected to generate up to 150 permanent jobs in highly qualified areas such as operation and maintenance, critical facilities engineering, safety management and operations support.
Sustainable technology and long-term commitment
Rubix Data Centers, as part of Submer GroupIt will implement a comprehensive development and operations model, constructing the facility and subsequently managing it for a long-term client. The center has been designed with the latest high energy efficiency liquid cooling technology, a key innovation that will allow operation without consuming water.
