Telefónica, through its subsidiary Telefónica Móviles, aims to consolidate its position as the second largest mobile phone operator in Mexico, for which it plans to invest $1.500 billion in the period 2003-2005.
For all these reasons, the President of the Republic of Mexico, Vicente Fox, held a working meeting with the President of the Telefónica Group, César Alierta.
At this meeting, César Alierta conveyed to Vicente Fox the idea that Mexico is a strategic market for the future of the Telefónica Group, as well as the Company's intention to consolidate itself as the second largest national mobile phone operator in the Mexican market through its subsidiary Telefónica Móviles.
Likewise, César Alierta reiterated the Group's intention to contribute its international experience to the development of the information society and telecommunications in Mexico and to become a long-term investor involved in the country's economic and social development.
In addition to its presence through Telefónica Móviles, the Group is gradually integrating itself into the Mexican social and business fabric.
Telefónica is already present in the Mexican internet market through Terra Lycos México, in the call center segment through Atento México, and in the data business for large corporations and companies through Telefónica Data México.
Currently, Telefónica Móviles México offers an attractive range of products and services in the market through CDMA technology in Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Tijuana.
